Online Yoga Session during Lockdown

Maintaining a balance between oneself and the environment is necessary for every human. In the
rush of moving forward with our life, we often neglect the importance of our own well-being. Yoga is
a tool to unlock the treasures of inner peace and a sweet escape from our busy schedule, to
appreciate oneself.

The pandemic is a very stressful time for all of us and also quite restricting to our physical health.
Being stuck at home for days in the end, with nary a social life, you’re bound to feel bored and all
this can lead to a negative mind space.

GLOBAL NEXUS  – Top Corporate event planning company – organized an Online Yoga Session on the 15th of April, 2020. Over 35-40 people joined
the session and were guided by the professional instructors over a half an hour-long video call.
The session started with a discussion about the importance of yoga while basic yoga postures or
asanas were being performed. The participants were guided to simultaneously join them and try the
steps that were being given out by one of the instructors.

The Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation, a 12-posture strong yoga routine, was the starter for all who
were present. Every posture and technique were explained and demonstrated, while the observers
were keeping up with the instructor.

The Surya Namaskar is the ‘ultimate asana’, has numerous benefits:

Help lose weight
Glowing skin.
Better digestive system.
Ensures regular menstrual cycle.
Brings down blood sugar level.
Improves anxiety
It helps your body detox.
Battles insomnia

People were also enlightened by the importance of deep breathing and the reason why everyone

chants along the process. Calming energy was flowing through the room as everyone, despite social
distancing, were together, attaining inner peace.

There was a family that joined the session who not only enjoyed the experience but reaped
knowledge about the subconscious mind and carried out the procedure specified as a team,
together, a bonding moment we all adored.

The facts on pranayama yoga were presented and the participants were pleased to know how prana
creates an aura around the body and flows through thousands of subtle energy channels called
Nadis and energy centers called chakras. A briefing about a few pranayama asanas was given and
some of them were demonstrated too.

The instructor was a certified practitioner, specializing in Vipassana Meditation which mainly focuses
on breathing and how it all links to the whole body.

Vipassana can be translated as “Insight,” a clear awareness of exactly what is happening as
it happens. Samatha can be translated as “concentration” or “tranquillity.” It is a state in
which the mind is brought to rest, focused only on one item, and not allowed to wander.
When this is done, a deep calm pervades body and mind, a state of tranquillity that must be
experienced to be understood.

There was a brief interactive session with active participation filled with questions which very ready
to be served with answers.

The diet that needs to be followed was discussed by them and the importance of essential
ingredients in an everyday meal was given a thought upon. Our body is a temple that needs to be
fed right and taken care of.

The importance of uniting, not only an individual’s vital organs but fellow beings together as a group,
irrespective of caste or creed, came through a very interesting take on how the air we breathe is all
same and so is the importance of mindfulness and healthy body for everyone.

Another point raised by one of the participants was about how the workaholics have finally gotten a
chance to pay attention to themselves and devour the beautiful journey of discovering oneself.
Many videos are available online and there are many asanas one can try, which can be a bit
overwhelming for the newbies. Such an audience was advised to start slow, focusing on building a
habit to be regular and relaxing in a peaceful space.

Even acupressure was given a quick look by the instructor as he told everyone how incorporating a
few minutes of such an exercise can help you prevent sinus and other health issues.

Acupressure is a medicine technique based on the concept of life energy which flows through
“meridians” in the body. In treatment, physical pressure is applied to acupuncture points with
the aim of clearing blockages in these meridians.

In the end, all the participants had their answers and the session was indeed very informative and
quite a pleasant turn during such a situation. The host of the video conference took the time to end
the session, thanking both the instructors and also the participants. A beautiful two liners were
presented by the host to present his gratitude over making the session a success and how it proved
to help and relax during a difficult time.
